Increase in Online Security for Online Casinos will be good for industry…
For many years people have used security as the stick with which they beat online casinos. They point to issues with age verification, money laundering and the less than precise methods of excluding gambling addicts as ways in which the online system is flawed.
While we do not want to encourage underage gambling in any way shape or form, I think it’s fair to say that all the big name casinos have been pretty tight on verification and security for some time.
However it’s good to see the industry moving on and constantly trying to improve itself as 888 are doing with their decision to bring in UK based security giants 192Business (the company that already works with Party Casino and PKR.
Ruth Tanami, responsible gaming head honcho at 888 said that increased player verification would enable the casino to enter new markets safely and responsibly and ensure that the player is of the correct age and status to be playing on the casino.
All of the above is true and if we’re being cynical about it 888 are probably doing this for their own financial reasons (less credit card fraud and therefore less chargeback’s) it’s good for the industry as a whole. It will hopefully mean that
The more online casinos tighten up, the more credit and respect they will start to receive from the outside world and eventually this, in turn will lead to the regulation and legalizing of online casinos in Australia and other parts of the world. We may be able to play slots, pokies, blackjack etc online without all the legal uncertainty that surrounds us at the moment.
