There has been some very surprising research done in the UK regarding online gambling. The study indicates that online casinos are more popular than Facebook and other social networking sites.
Everyone knows what a phenonenon Facebook has been worldwide, so it hard to imagine that the number of people visiting internet gambling sites is now outnumbering those visiting the social networking sites.
If this reasearch is accurate, then it it probable that what is happening in the UK is also taking place here in Australia too.
The social demographic may be different for the two groups. That is, it tends to be mainly younger people using social networking sites, and the gambling sites are likely to attract people of a slightly older age and upwards.
The study in the UK shows that probably contrary to a general perceptiion, almost half of the casino players were in fact middle to higher earners. Also, as has been expected nearly half of online players are now women.
Many gambling sites are shifting their focus to female players, and accordingly TV advertisements reflect this trend. Women are encouraged onto bingo sites with offers of free games, it is then hoped they can be persuaded to stay and play other online games.
So, the phenomenal growth in internet gambling over the past few years is powered mainly by well educated and high earning households, breaking from the theory that it is senior citizens and lower income families supporting the industry.
The online gaming market is set to grow all over the world, and of course in Australia too.
