Posted on Wednesday Aug 18 5:54:00 BST 2010 There have been some rumours of plans in Australia to introduce a compulsory filter system on some internet sites, including online gambling sites. Under the proposals the Government would be able to block any websites it chooses.
Both the Liberals and the Greens have made election promises that would stop any attempt at this mandatory censorship to prevent it becoming law.
The Greens, however, have gone even further by suggesting a gambler friendly alternative. Their suggestion is for an optional filter system which would allow Australians to install their own personal filters. This would give them total control over which websites to block, and enable internet users to either opt-in or opt-out.
Under this arrangement any Australian who enjoys internet gambling would be free to do so. The aim of the Green's proposal would be to protect young people from accessing undesirable websites.
The Green's spokesperson said that the idea is to put the obligation on ISPs to offer computer-based filtering systems which individuals can customise to block whatever content they wish.
This would seem to be a much fairer solution than a blanket ban, which, if implemented, would place restrictions on people who want to use internet gambling sites. Posted on Saturday Aug 14 3:02:00 BST 2010 September this year will see the release of new online slot or pokie games, which will feature very advanced technology.
Microgaming, which develops software for online casinos, has announced that the new slots will be based on The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The first to be released will the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings, slot game where players will be able to follow Frodo Baggins and his companions on their journey to Middle Earth.
Players willl be able to activate cinematic clips during bonus rounds. There will be a 5 reel slot with 243 ways to win. The maximum payout will be 90,000 credits.
Due to strict online gaming legislation in many countries, including Australia, the game will only be available to adults in countries where online gaming is permitted. However, there is nothing to stop players in any country where online gambling is not allowed, from accessing overseas online casinos through the internet.
The games should prove very popular with fans of both The Lord of the Rings books and films, especially since they are using such exciting new technology. |
