Victoria Government Denies Reports that it’s in Crown Casino’s PocketPosted on Tuesday Jun 2 0:00:00 BST 2009 Victoria Government Denies Reports that it’s in Crown Casino’s Pocket The Government of the State of Victoria has denied that it grants special treatment to Melbourne’s Crown Casino despite the fact that this month alone it has granted extra gaming floor space so that more pokies can be added and granted an extension to a high roller room at the casino - and all this when other gambling restrictions in the state appear to be getting tighter in the state. Tourism Minister Tim Holding admitted that while the government does have a very close relationship with Crown it does not grant it any special favours. Mr. Holding added that the Casino provided jobs and tourism for the area and it was natural for the government to work closely with such a large organisation that put such faith in Victoria’s tourist trade. Some Australians who dislike gambling are unimpressed with the close relationship the government share with Crown – and have questioned the expansion of the Casino. It appears that money talks (once again) the government will get more taxes from the extension and so they are always going to be in favour of the Crown Casino expansion project |
