How to Play Blackjack:

Online Blackjack has soared in popularity over recent years and is proving to have advantages over its land-based cousin.

Blackjack is usually played between you, the dealer and up to four other players around the table. Face value cards are all numbered 2 through 10. An ace is valued at either 1 or 11 at your discretion. If your hand contains an ace with a value of 11, then it’s called a “soft” hand (e.g. A, 7 is a soft 18), whereas any hands containing an ace value at 1 are considered to be “hard” hands (e.g. A, 7, J is a hard 18).

The much sought after Blackjack hand is any ace card and a card valued at 10 (K, Q, J and 10). The Blackjack hand (2-hand) beats three or more cards that equal 21 every time.

Firstly, you decide how much you would like to wager and then set your chosen amount (in chips) upon the table. Once you and all other people have clicked the “Deal” option, your Blackjack game begins.

As soon as each game begins your bet amount cannot be changed, unless you take advantage of various options such as “Double Down”, “Split” and “Insurance”, more on these options later!

Each player is dealt two cards face up and the dealer deals himself two cards, one face up and the other face down. The dealer’s card which is face down, also known as the “hole” card, remains face down until all players have completed their hands. Once all players have finished their hands, the dealer then flips over the “hole” card.

If the dealers hand totals at a “hard” 17 through to 21, then they must stand. If the total is 16 or less then the dealer must carry on taking cards until the total is over 16 or over 21, which is known in the Blackjack world as being “bust”. Dealer must always hit on a “soft” 16.

Blackjack is one of the few games that you can really influence the end result of. Obviously, the “House” always keeps the edge but by practicing and utilizing a good strategy, you can really maximize your odds of winning more often.

  •     If dealer shows a 4, 5 or 6, you should stand on hard 12.
  •     Dealer’s showing a 2, 3, 7 or higher then you should hit on hard 12.
  •     Continue to hit until you show at least 17, if dealer’s up card shows 10.
  •     Hit soft 17 if dealer’s up card shows 10.
